From Plowing Fields to Planting Memories:

A Farm's Journey Through Time

Howell’s Farm was purchased in 1878, with a total of 960 acres. Today, 800 acres remain, continuing the tradition of farming that started with cattle, hogs, and row crops. During the farm crisis of the 1980s, farmer Fred made the decision to explore alternative farming and planted a quarter acre of Strawflowers and Statice, growing them for dried flowers. Once harvested and dried, these flowers were displayed in the farm’s ancestral 1910 barn, marking the beginning of Howell’s focus on dried floral arrangements.

In 1994, Fred ventured into greenhouse growing and experimented with pumpkin farming, and in 1996, we hosted our very first school field trip. Over the years, Howell’s Farm has transformed from conventional agriculture to a popular agritourism and agri-tainment destination, offering unique experiences for guests of all ages.

Today, we grow 3 acres of flowers for preserving and drying, maintain 18 acres of pumpkins, and offer fun activities such as our 8-acre corn maze—just to name a few. The remaining acres are rented to neighbors for cattle grazing and row crops.

Despite all the changes, the heart of Howell’s Farm remains unchanged. We invite you to come, walk where generations have walked, explore the fields, get lost in the maze, and meet our baby goats. At Howell’s, we’re more than just a farm; we’re a family, and we welcome you to be a part of it.
